Scholarships and bursaries
Goal: A$1 million
Objective: an endowment fund to provide long-term support to students
Students at the University of the Sunshine Coast face a variety of challenges during their education. In addition to studying, many students also support families, or come from rural areas, or experience financial hardship. Around 43 percent of students at the University of the Sunshine Coast come from low socio-economic backgrounds. The national average is 14 percent (Department of Education, Science and Training, 2005).
Financial support in the form of scholarships and bursaries can provide much-needed assistance to these students, by way of tuition fees, textbooks, equipment, accommodation and general living expenses.
With a campaign target of A$1 million, the University aims to substantially increase the amount of long-term financial support available to students. The establishment of an endowment fund will allow funds to be invested and distributed to students in a variety of equity groups and in different categories of academic achievement, as well as sport excellence and research.
Investing in scholarships and bursaries can make a significant difference to a student’s future.
