Enterprise Program

USC students participate in the Enterprise Program at the Innovation Centre

The Enterprise Program is designed to help motivated students turn their passion into their profession.

It is primarily targeted at students who have the interest, drive and inspiration to work for themselves or to start their own entrepreneurial venture. The skills students learn can also prove valuable to enterprising graduates seeking careers in not-for-profit ventures or large and small business.

The Enterprise Program is open to all students studying any degree in any faculty, and incorporates a variety of activities inside and outside the classroom. These activities are designed to give students the opportunity to learn from and be motivated by successful entrepreneurs from a wide variety of sectors, and to tap into other practical opportunities.

Learn entrepreneurship in the classroom

Students can incorporate the Enterprise Program into their degree program, by including a group of specially designed enterprise and entrepreneurial courses.*

These courses will be relevant to most students as they aim to introduce you to the world of business and give you a practical understanding of the steps involved in establishing and growing a successful business venture - whether commercial or not-for-profit.

The Enterprise Program will also give students the opportunity to pursue any business ideas or inventions they may have developed, even if they are not related to their current degree.

Students successfully completing the three special courses will be eligible for the award of an Entrepreneurship Minor, an attractive addition to their major subject.

The Minor in Entrepreneurship comprises:

  1. Innovation, Creativity and Entrepreneurship (COR110)
  2. Entrepreneurship—the Fundamentals
  3. Entrepreneurship—the Company

* Subject to final approval

Enterprise Tuesday

This is a free evening program held on campus at the Innovation Centre and open to all USC students and staff as well as the local business community. This initiative is specifically designed and targeted at those who want to:

  • learn how to transform an idea into business
  • find out if entrepreneurship is for them
  • acquire some of the vocabulary of business and how businesses think about ideas
  • learn how to protect intellectual property in the early stages of venturing
  • learn some practical business skills

The Enterprisers Program

This is a four-day residential educational experience that builds self-confidence, unlocks creativity and creates meaningful relationships between individuals who are, through their choosing, our future leaders. The experience debunks many perceived barriers about venturing and empowers individuals to realise that they can be entrepreneurial in their environment.

The Enterprisers Program was developed in 2002 by the Cambridge-MIT Institute, an alliance between two of the world’s most prestigious universities - the University of Cambridge and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

The Program is currently managed by the Centre for Entrepreneurial Learning at the University of Cambridge and is delivered in Australia in partnership with the USC Innovation Centre.

The Student Business Centre

This is a shared office space within the Innovation Centre, that is designed to provide students with an on campus base to develop their new business ideas. Spaces in the Student Business Centre are limited and entry is competitive, so students will be asked to submit a simple application to the Innovation Centre. Successful applicants will be allocated a shared desk space on a semester basis.

Work experience with innovative businesses

Businesses based at the Innovation Centre frequently recruit students for both part-time and full-time jobs or projects. This can be a great opportunity for students to get some practical experience and exposure to an early-stage business.
