Students' exhibition to open at USC Gallery
ABC Radio Trendspotter André La Porte will open "thread", a portfolio exhibition by graduating design students, at the University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery on Thursday 13 November at 6pm.
This exhibition will unravel a string of original designs by advanced-level students who have studied marketing, advertising, multimedia and communication.
Computer-Based Design lecturer Toni Coles said "thread" was symbolic of the students’ abilities to create tapestries of ideas from a single concept.
“Our students have put considerable thought into the ideas behind each project in their portfolios,” Ms Coles said.
“The exhibition will provide the future leaders of design with the opportunity to weave their way into the broader design network and creative industries.”
Ms Coles said the work on show would appeal to industry professionals, future students and the general community.
Creative industries have become a leading segment of the global economy, and the University of the Sunshine Coast is supporting this high-growth sector by offering courses in the fields of art and design.
Students graduating with art and design degrees have the potential to work as professionals in advertising, graphic design, information visualisation, interpretive design, animation, multimedia design and development, packaging, publishing and web design.
The exhibition will continue until Saturday 22 November. Admission is free and the Gallery is open from 10am to 4pm Mondays to Saturdays. The 2008 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by major sponsor coastline BMW.
