Come along to Uni Day at The J

Julie Hobbins, administrative assistant at the USC Noosa Centre

2 November 2006

Noosa residents interested in tertiary study are invited to the University of the Sunshine Coast’s “Uni Day at The J” at Noosa Junction on Saturday 11 November.

University staff will be on hand from 10.30am to 1.30pm to discuss study options and show people through the teaching facilities at the exciting, new youth and community centre at the corner of Noosa Drive and Grant Street.

Prospective students also can learn how to apply to study, how to gain financial support during study and about other services available to USC students.

The USC Noosa Centre has relocated from Bicentennial Hall, Sunshine Beach, where 53 first-year students this year studied undergraduate business programs.

USC Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas said the USC Noosa Centre would offer three first-year programs in a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Business and a Graduate Diploma in Education for first semester, 2007.

He said 12 courses would be offered as part of these three programs.

Professor Thomas attended the official opening of The J last Friday 27 October and commended Noosa Shire Council for developing such a great facility.

He said the new USC Noosa Centre had excellent learning spaces for students, with two tutorial rooms, a 24-hour computer lab linked to the USC Campus at Sippy Downs, a library booking service and use of The J’s auditorium and coffee shop.

The USC Centre will be staffed by full-time administrative assistant, Julie Hobbins, and a student counsellor.

Ms Hobbins, who is studying a Bachelor of Business Management degree at USC, said the Centre would be much more convenient for students, many of whom will be mature-age students.

She said the centre was in a great central location in Noosa and the 24-hour computer lab would enable people to study at times that suited them.

“This centre will help students work around their employment commitments and their family commitments,’’ she said.
