Research involving human participation
The University of the Sunshine Coast Human Research Ethics Committee reviews, for ethics approval, research proposals involving human participants and proposals for teaching/learning activities that include research involving human participants.
The Committee is responsible for ensuring that research involving humans is conducted ethically and that the welfare and rights of human participants in research are protected. The Committee reports to the Research Management Committee, the University Council, and the National Health and Medical Research Council.
The application process
To begin the application process for Human Research Ethics approval, applicants must read and become familiar with the National Statement on Ethical Conduct in Research Involving Humans. The Committee assesses applications using the National Statement as the standard for evaluating applications.
Complete the National Ethics Application Form (NEAF).
The application form and all relevant attachments (as required in the application form) are to be submitted to the Secretary, Human Research Ethics Committee.
Application submission
Although applications can be submitted at any time, they must be received at least 14 days prior to an Human Research Ethics Committee meeting to enable that application to be accessed by the Committee. Applications received less than 14 days prior to the next Committee meeting will be held for the following meeting.
