Sandtray images
A sandtray was adopted to the task of generating group accounts from the educational experience of refugee young people and turned out to be a particularly productive way of communicating and interacting. During sandtray sessions groups had to create and complete a scene in 15-20 minutes. After selecting a theme the students had to create a group narrative explaining why they wanted to locate this or that symbol such as animals, plants and toy figures on various parts of the tray. The results were very rewarding for all concerned and many meaningful discussions took place. This shared activity prompted creativity, communication, openness, questions and clarifications making the whole experience purposeful and enjoyable.
