Academic dress
Graduands participating in the Graduation ceremony are required to wear academic dress, comprising a gown, hood/stole, and trencher/bonnet. The University of the Sunshine Coast has specific academic dress and faculty colours.

Academic dress hire
Academic dress for the ceremony is hired by graduands through Student Administration. You must complete the Attendance and Academic Dress Hire Form to have your order processed.
The Attendance and Academic Dress Hire Form contains information on how to hire academic dress to wear to the ceremony, and the associated hire fees. Payment for academic dress hire is required when this form is submitted.
Graduands may collect academic dress on the day before the ceremony.
Academic dress must be returned by 10.30pm after the Graduation ceremony. Failure to return hired academic dress will result in the full replacement cost being charged to your University account.
Purchasing academic dress
Graduands also have the option of purchasing their hood or stole through Student Administration. You must complete the Attendance and Academic Dress Hire Form, mark what items you wish to purchase, and return the form to have your order processed.
Higher degree by research graduands have the option of purchasing complete academic dress regalia. The University will contact you to discuss your options.

Wearing academic dress
Each academic dress item is worn in a specific way. Refer to the photographs of University of the Sunshine Coast academic dress.
Advice on how to wear your academic dress is available when it is collected. Student Administration staff also provide assistance before the ceremony commences.
Please note that pins should not be used to affix the hood or stole to your gown. Graduands are recommended to wear buttoned shirts or blouses to fasten the hood in place.

Faculty colours
For the purposes of academic dress the faculty colours are:
- Arts and Social Sciences - royal blue
- Business - academic green
- Science, Health and Education - new gold
Academic dress
Bachelor degrees
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the bachelor’s gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a black cloth Oxford burgon-style hood lined with silk to a depth of 15 centimetres in the colour of the faculty.
Combined bachelor degrees
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the bachelor’s gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a black cloth Oxford burgon-style hood lined with silk to a depth of 15 centimetres on the right side in the colour of the first-named faculty and lined with silk to a depth of 15 centimetres on the left side in the colour of the second-named faculty.
Bachelor (honours) degrees
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the bachelor’s gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a black cloth Oxford burgon-style hood lined with silk to a depth of 15 centimetres in the colour of the faculty with a two centimetre strip in black commencing three centimetres from the edge.
Graduate certificates
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the bachelor's gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a full-length black cloth stole edged to a depth of 2.5 centimetres in the colour of the faculty.
Graduate diplomas
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the bachelor's gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a full-length black cloth stole fully-lined in the colour of the faculty.
Master degrees (coursework awards)
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the master’s gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a black cloth Oxford burgon-style hood fully lined with silk in the colour of the faculty with a two centimetre strip in black commencing three centimetres from the edge.
Master degrees (research awards)
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the master’s gown of the University of Cambridge, a black cloth trencher cap and a black cloth Oxford burgon-style hood fully lined with silk in the colour of the faculty.
Doctoral degrees of a faculty 
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the doctor's gown of the University of Cambridge, facings and sleeve linings in the colour of the faculty, a black velvet bonnet with black cord tassel and a black cloth Cambridge hood fully lined with silk in the colour of the faculty.
Doctor of Philosophy
The recipient wears a black cloth gown in the style of the doctor’s gown of the University of Cambridge, facings and sleeve linings in new red, a black velvet bonnet with red cord tassel and a black cloth Cambridge hood fully lined with new red silk.
