Scholarships for commencing undergraduate students

The University of the Sunshine Coast is offering the following scholarships to students commencing their studies in 2011 who have achieved academic excellence. Some are also available to students who commence their studies in Semester 2, 2010.

To be eligible for any of these awards, you must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident. International students are not eligible to apply. Scholarships will be awarded in accordance with University policies and procedures.

Please note: Application forms will be made available here when they open for application later in the year.  Applications are to be lodged directly to the University of the Sunshine Coast.

USC Chancellor's Scholarships
The University of the Sunshine Coast Chancellor's Scholarships are awarded to recognise, reward and encourage academic excellence.
Eligibility: Students commencing full-time in their first undergraduate program in 2010, or students who commenced their first undergraduate program in Semester 2, 2009.
Selection criteria:
  • high academic achievement (OP 1- 6 or equivalent), and
  • an active involvement in extra curricular / community activities
Value: A$12,000 (A$4,000 per year for 3 years)

Renouf Family Scholarships
The Renouf Family Scholarships were established in 2008 by Sir Clem Renouf in memory of his parents for their sacrifice in giving him the best educational opportunity possible, under challenging circumstances.
Eligibility: Students commencing full-time in their first undergraduate program in 2010, or students who commenced their first undergraduate program in Semester 2, 2009.
Selection criteria:
  • high academic achievement (OP 1- 6 or equivalent)
  • leadership skills demonstrated through academic, extra curricular/community activities
  • financial need
Value: A$12,000 (A$4,000 per year for 3 years)

Tim Fairfax Regional Scholarships
The Tim Fairfax Regional Scholarships were established in 2008 by Mr Tim Fairfax to support students who must move away from their home residence in a regional or remote area to undertake their university studies.
Eligibility: Students from regional or rural area, commencing full-time in their first undergraduate program in 2010 or who commenced full-time in Semester 2, 2009, who have had to relocate to study at USC.
Selection criteria:
  • high academic achievement
  • leadership skills demonstrated through academic, extra-curricular or community activities
  • financial need

Vice-Chancellor's Merit Scholarships
The University of the Sunshine Coast Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships, to be awarded for the first time in 2010, are intended to recognise, reward and encourage academic excellence.
Eligibility: Students commencing full-time in their first undergraduate program in 2010, or those who commenced full-time in their first undergraduate program in Semester 2, 2009.

Heller Merit Scholarships
The Heller Merit Scholarships, to be awarded for the first time in 2010, are intended to recognise, reward and encourage academic excellence.
Eligibility: Students commencing full-time in their first undergraduate program in 2010, or those who commenced full-time in their first undergraduate program in Semester 2, 2009.

Caloundra RSL Sub-Branch Scholarship
Established in 2005 by the Caloundra RSL Sub-Branch to assist a local person with study-related expenses.
Eligibility:
  • students enrolling full-time in their first undergraduate program at USC in 2010, or those who commenced full-time in their first undergraduate program at USC in Semester 2, 2009
  • permanent resident of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council area
Selection criteria:
  • high academic achievement
  • active involvement in extra-curricular and community activities
  • financial need
Value: Tuition fees for first year (approx value between A$4000 - A$7000) plus A$1000

Neuendorf Group Scholarships
The Neuendorf Scholarships were established in 2006 by the Neuendorf Group to mark the 10th anniversary of the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Eligibility:
  • 2009 school leavers
  • graduating from a secondary school in the areas covered by the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Gympie, Fraser Coast or South Burnett local government areas
  • enrolling full-time in their first undergraduate program
Selection criteria:
  • high academic achievement
  • demonstrated commitment to achieving their goals
  • financial need

ANZ Bank Scholarship
It is the intent of this Scholarship to encourage students who have demonstrated leadership qualities in either their school or community to undertake their undergraduate degree at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Eligibility:
  • students who have graduated from high school within the last five (5) years
  • commencing full-time in any undergraduate program in the Faculty of Business in 2010, or who commenced full time in the Faculty of Business in Semester 2, 2009
  • students must have attended a high school in Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Gympie, Fraser Coast or South Burnett local government areas

Westpac Sustainability Scholarship
The Westpac Sustainability Scholarship in was established in 2009 to encourage and support a student with a keen interest in sustainability. The intention of this scholarship to encourage students to consider a Major in Sustainability.
Eligibility:
  • 2009 school leaver
  • commencing full-time undergraduate student in their first program at USC, and
  • enrolling in SUS101 Foundations of Sustainability in their first semester

Les and Mary Hall Family Scholarship in Engineering
This scholarship was awarded for the first time in 2009 to support a student undertaking an undergraduate program in Engineering. The scholarship was established by the Hall family to honour Les and Mary Hall.
Eligibility: Students commencing full-time in their first undergraduate program in the Bachelor of Civil Engineering.

The Poole Group Scholarship in Accounting
This scholarship, formerly known as the Poole and Partners Scholarship in Accounting, was established in 2005. The scholarship is based on academic performance as well as financial community involvement.
Eligibility:
  • students commencing full-time in the Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) in 2010, or who commenced in Semester 2, 2009
  • completed Year 12 within the last three years
  • permanent resident of the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Gympie, Fraser Coast or South Burnett local government areas
Selection criteria:

Rod and Jan Forrester Scholarship in Business
The Rod and Jan Forrester Scholarship was established in 2001 to support a student undertaking a Faculty of Business program.
Eligibility:
  • 2009 school leaver
  • commencing full-time in an undergraduate program in the Faculty of Business
  • graduated from a school in the areas covered by the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Gympie, Fraser Coast or South Burnett local government area

Sunshine Coast Daily Kathleen McArthur Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is to honour the memory of Kathleen McArthur, conservationist, author, educator activist and a founder of the Wildlife Preservation Society of Queensland in 1962. Kathleen McArthur worked hard to preserve the area now known as Cooloola National Park. She was named the Sunshine Coast Daily Citizen of the Century in 2002. The intent of this scholarship is to encourage and support a student with an active interest in the environment.
Eligibility:
  • 2009 school leavers
  • enrolling full-time in their first undergraduate program
  • graduating from schools in the areas covered by the Sunshine Coast, Moreton Bay, Somerset, Gympie, Fraser Coast or South Burnett local government areas
Selection criteria:
  • high academic achievement
  • demonstrated interest in and commitment to the environment

Vic Walker Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2000 by Jocelyn Walker in memory of her husband, Vic Walker, the scholarship is available to a graduate from Immanuel Lutheran College who commences a USC degree in the year immediately following their completion of secondary school.
Eligibility: Year 12 graduates from Immanuel Lutheran College
Selection criteria:

  • demonstrated interest in and commitment to the environment
