Scholarships for students on low incomes

Start-Up Scholarships and Relocation Scholarships

Two new scholarships were announced in the May 2009 federal budget -  the Start-Up Scholarship  to help cover general education costs of attending university and the Relocation Scholarship to assist students who had to relocate to take up their university studies.

While legislation to give effect to the proposed scholarships has already passed the House of Representatives, the Senate has not passed the legislation.  The Government has indicated that it intends to again seek passage of the reforms by the Senate in early 2010.  Commencment dates are subject to the passage of the legislation.

For more information about these scholarships go to Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations to download fact sheets about the scholarships and other changes that will affect university students.
