OPs, selection ranks and cut-offs

OP

An OP, or Overall Position, is a number between 1 and 25 (1 being the highest) that indicates a Queensland statewide rank order position. The OP is the Order of Merit assigned to current Queensland Year 12 students.

Selection rank

A selection rank is a numerical score between 1 and 99, (99 is the highest), used to compare different qualifications on the same scale for the purpose of tertiary entrance. The selection rank is the Order of Merit assigned to interstate and overseas applicants, qualified OP ineligible Queensland Year 12 students and Non-Year 12 applicants.

Cut-off

A cut-off is the minimum selection rank or maximum OP required for entry to a particular degree program. Each year the University of the Sunshine Coast determines cut-offs by the number of places available in a program (the quota), the number of applicants who apply for those places, and the standard of those applicants.

As a result, the cut-off can vary from year to year. The cut-offs are not pre-determined. Therefore, last year's cut-off can only be used as a guide. Only Queensland Year 12 students should refer to the OP cut-offs. All other applicants should refer to the minimum selection rank cut-offs.
