Applying to study at USC is straightforward. Use these simple steps to guide you and remember—there is plenty of support to assist you along the way.

1. Assess your options
You can do more research on your best study options by visiting the campus, attending information events and talking to University staff. Don't forget—there is still flexibility to change your program after you have commenced your studies.
2. Choose your pathway
Flexible entry options are available to help you ease into university study. USC offers a number of entry pathways to assist you, including the Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) and alternative entry for non-Year 12 and mature-age applicants.
You may also choose to enrol in an enabling course. USC's Tertiary Enabling Program (TEP) offers a range of enabling courses in key areas.
Depending on your program, course or student status, pathways include:
- Year 12 and secondary study
- Certificate and tertiary study
- Preparatory and bridging study
- Mature-age and alternative entry
- Special consideration of educational disadvantage
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander admission
- International student entry
Contact USC if you would like advice on addressing entry requirements or selecting the best method of entry for you.
3. Select your preferences
Order your Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) preferences for the best possible offer. Preferences 1 and 2 are your ideal degree options; preferences 3 and 4 are an alternate path to your chosen career, or to an upgradable degree; and preferences 5 and 6 are the back-up plan—if you miss out on the rest, these two are at least a foot in the university door.
For more information on ordering your preferences, visit the QTAC website, talk to your guidance officer, or contact USC for assistance.
4. Apply to QTAC
Go to the QTAC website to lodge your application. Your application to study at the University will vary depending on your program, course or student status.
Refer to the QTAC website for key dates to submit an application, change preference, and accept or defer an offer. Contact the Admissions Officer in Student Administration for specific admissions advice.
5. Examine scholarship opportunities
A large number of scholarships, bursaries and prizes are available to USC students—you could be eligible. Scholarships can be awarded based on your academic marks, financial need or where you live. In 2009, USC supported approximately 600 undergraduate students with scholarships and bursaries worth more than A$1.8 million. Individual USC faculties also offer support and reward student excellence through various prizes and awards.
6. Accept your offer
Accept your offer with QTAC, enrol in classes and make the most of Orientation.
If you are offered a place but decide you don’t want to study at this time, you can defer your place for up to two years. Full deferral details are included with your offer materials. You must tell QTAC and Student Administration at USC of your decision to ensure your place is held.
