Top concerns of new students

Gerhard Joubert of Engineering Australia chats with USC student Krystal Kasepchuk at the 2008 USC Careers Fair

A recent survey of new students at USC, revealed the top ten most daunting aspects of starting university (in order of importance):

  1. Meeting new people
  2. Finding my way around
  3. Assessment items
  4. The workload
  5. Managing my time between university and other commitments
  6. Returning to study after a long break
  7. The change in lifestyle
  8. Managing my finances and the cost of university
  9. Organising my timetable
  10. Managing my own study

So if you have some of these concerns, relax - you are not alone! A variety of programs and support services are on offer at USC that can help you adjust to university study.

Remember to try and strike a balance between university, your work and home, and your social life. And if you need to, seek support from your family, friends and staff at the University.
