Welcome from the Vice-Chancellor

Professor Paul Thomas, Vice-Chancellor

Congratulations on your decision to study at the University of the Sunshine Coast. I hope you enjoy your academic work and take advantage of the many services and facilities available to you.

This University is a place of ‘human scale’ where you will find the independently evaluated level of student support to be outstanding. However, in order to maximise the social and educational benefits of a university experience, it is important that you commit to interacting with our highly qualified staff, because eventual success will come only from these genuine interchanges rather than passivity.

Each year more opportunities are provided, whether they are new teaching disciplines, the opening of research areas, provision of sporting facilities, work experience or ‘enterprise’ programs, Global Opportunities (GO) for travel and study – the annually expanding list of opportunities is extensive.

The physical environment of the University is also special and all of us have an important obligation to ensure its sustainability.

Orientation provides an opportunity to explore the campus and some of these dimensions of University life. The program has been designed to help you familiarise yourself with the University and some of the transition issues with which everyone, without exception, has to wrestle with in some way when they embark on a degree program.

I look forward to welcoming you at the All Student Welcome during Orientation.

I wish you the best of luck.
