Indigenous Alternative Entry Program
The University is committed to offering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people the opportunity to achieve tertiary qualifications.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are encouraged to apply for admission to the University through both standard and alternative admission procedures.
How to apply
School leavers and mature-aged undergraduate applicants must apply through the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) by either:
- applying online via the QTAC online application service
or
- completing the Tertiary Study Application form in the QTAC Guide, which can be purchased at newsagents. Applications for the mid-year intake can only be via the QTAC online application service
Ensure you identify yourself as an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person when completing your application form.
When to apply
- Applications for study in Semester 1 must be lodged by the end of September each year.
- Applications for study in Semester 2 must be lodged by mid to late May each year.
Applications lodged after these dates may attract a late fee.
The admission procedure
If you indicate a preference for a University of the Sunshine Coast degree on your application, QTAC will notify our Student Administration office. In turn if you indicate that you are an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person on your application form, the University's Student Administration office will notify Indigenous Services. Once Indigenous Services receives this information:
- you will be sent a letter inviting you to participate in the program
- if you decide to accept the invitation an interview will be arranged for you. The interview panel consists of an Indigenous Services Officer, a faculty representative from the degree you intend to study and a Academic Skills Adviser. The interviews themselves are informal and focus on your attitude and desire to study at the University with some reflection on academic ability. A written task is also undertaken at the end of the interview
- If you are successful in gaining entry to the University of the Sunshine Coast, Student Administration will send a letter of offer to you. Another letter will be sent to you to invite you to take part in the Indigenous Orientation Week.
- If you are not successful in gaining entry to the University of the Sunshine Coast, Indigenous Services will contact you to discuss ways to improve your application and increase your chances of future success.
