Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE)
Students in Free Enterprise are changing the world by making a difference in their local communities.
About SIFE
SIFE is a global, non-profit organisation comprised of dedicated teams of students in more than 40 countries around the world. SIFE challenges students to create economic opportunities for others while developing their own leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
Through the development and delivery of community outreach projects, SIFE encourages students to apply the practical knowledge they learn in the classroom while educating others and promoting innovation and enterprise.
SIFE Competitions
Once a year SIFE teams showcase their projects in a National Competition judged by some of the most influential business leaders in Australia including: Arnotts, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Kimberly-Clark, Qantas and Woolworths.
SIFE National Champion teams advance to the SIFE World Cup, which is the top level of competition. In 2005, Brenton Tickner, a Bachelor of Business (Management/Marketing) student from USC, was one of five Australians to travel to Toronto, Canada to take part in the SIFE World Cup.
SIFE Projects
USC SIFE teams have worked on a number of valuable projects including:
: The day is an opportunity for successful industry representatives around the Sunshine Coast to reinforce the student’s textbook learning. The Business Enterprise Day attracts approximately 200 business students from schools around the Sunshine Coast. The overall goal of the day is providing the students with the knowledge and practical examples of how entrepreneurship is integrated into the day to day business environment.
Marketing Tutorials for High School Students: The SIFE team developed marketing workshops for Year 10 students at three local high schools to support the learning experience of the student’s Business Enterprise course. The workshops outlined how to successfully produce and market a product or service, and how to formulate a business plan. Empower: Empower (an initiative of the Family Challenge organisation) is an innovative African aid project that seeks to empower the Zambian village of Kichikwe. In response to Family Challenges' request for marketing and communication knowledge to successfully roll out the Empower project, the SIFE team implemented a program which consisted of hosting an interactive marketing strategy workshop, and providing consistent support to Family Challenge for the duration of their marketing campaign.Nungeena Aboriginal Corporation for Women’s Business: The Nungeena Aboriginal Corporation for Women’s Business was created to provide advocacy and support for the local Indigenous community. Through a series of workshops the SIFE team assisted Nungeena in the development of an effective marketing plan. The second phase was to develop an e-marketing strategy, with the focus on building a website. Eumundi Markets: SIFE teamed up with the board of Eumundi Markets to deliver a marketing strategy workshop to the stall owners of the original Eumundi Markets. The second phase is working towards an environmentally sustainable market place. More information
