Overseas Student Health Cover

Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is compulsory for all students * in Australia on a student visa, and the Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) requires that students maintain OSHC for the duration of the student visa.

Students are individually responsible for ensuring that OSHC is current at all times and renewed as required. If OSHC is allowed to lapse, students (and their families) are responsible for paying any medical costs incurred, which can be extremely expensive.

Undergraduate, postgraduate and fee-paying Study Abroad students

USC will provide single cover OSHC free of charge for undergraduate, postgraduate and fee-paying Study Abroad students who are studying on a student visa and who require OSHC as determined by DIAC.

This cover will be with be with USC's preferred provider OSHC Worldcare. Students may purchase their own cover with an alternative provider, however there will be no re-imbursement by USC.

If students require family cover OSHC they will be required to purchase their own family cover OSHC from a recognised Australian provider or they can request USC to purchase family cover on their behalf with USC's preferred provider, OSHC Worldcare.

It is important to be aware that you are not limited to OSHC, which is the minimum healthcover required by the Australian Government. You may like to consider additional health and travel insurance. Any additional insurance is at your own expense. For more information about USC's preferred healthcover provider, OSHCWorldcare, and the OSHC policy, visit www.oshcworldcare.com.au.

English language and exchange students

English language and exchange program students will be required to purchase their own OSHC from a recognised Australian provider or they can request USC to purchase this with the preferred provider, OSHC Worldcare.

Non-student visa holders

If you are not a student visa holder you are not eligible for OSHC. Please refer to a travel agent or search online to find suitable health and/or travel insurance.

* Swedish and Norwegian students may be exempt.
