Our class average is 14-15 students.
When may I start my program?
You may start your General English program any Monday, except for public holidays. Specialised programs have set start dates throughout the year.
Are text books provided free-of-charge?
Yes, text books are on loan to you for the duration of your program. This means that you need to return your text book at the end of your program (in order to get a certificate of completion).
How many nationalities are there in the school?
We have a mix of students from Europe (Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria), South America (Brazil, Argentina, Colombia, Uruguay) and Asia (Japan, Korea, Taiwan, China and Thailand)!
How will I know my English level?
On your first day you will be given a short English test and you will then be allocated to the most appropriate class for your level.
Where can I live on the Sunshine Coast?
We can help you find suitable accommodation. You may choose to live with a local Australian family or alternatively Accommodation Services can provide advice on finding student accommodation.
What can I do on the weekend?
Student Services organises many social weekend activities for students. The Sunshine Coast is a popular tourist destination, so there are many things to do and see. Students visit Fraser Island (World Heritage listed), go camping, surf, relax at the beach or explore Brisbane city.
Can I use the internet and how much will it cost?
Yes, international students will be given a student network account which gives access to the internet and email facilities. The cost is included in the program fees.
Where can I buy my lunch?
The University campus has two café's and a brasserie which sell a large selection of delicious food, snacks and drinks. The cafe is conveniently located near the classrooms.
Can I meet Australians easily?
Studying on campus is an ideal place to meet Australians who are visiting or studying at the University. University campus life allows students to easily interact with local Australians.
Where can I study after my English program?
Our University offers programs to suit many students. Students can follow the Direct Entry English Pathway to enter our university degree programs. There are also practical programs available through local colleges.
How will I know my way around the University?
You will be given a tour of the campus on your first day when you will also have the opportunity to ask the guide any questions.
How far is the University campus from the beach?
The beach is 13 kilometres from the University campus, a 10-minute drive by car. It is also accessible by bus and bicycle.
Is it true there are wild kangaroos on campus?
Yes! The University of the Sunshine Coast is one of the very few Australian universities which has wild kangaroos on the campus!
How much money will I need for living expenses?
In addition to your tuition and program expenses, you should make sure you have sufficient cash to support yourself during your study. On average, students in Queensland require A$1,250 per month to live comfortably. This includes homestay fees, personal expenses, transportation costs and lunches from Monday to Friday.
Extra allowance should be made for entertainment expenses. If you have any school age dependents accompanying you to Australia, you will be required to pay full fees for their schooling if they are enrolled in a government or non-government school. You should allow at least A$8,000 per year for the cost of each child's schooling.
