IELTS FAQs

For more frequently asked questions about the IELTS test, visit the IELTS website or contact us at USC International.

How can I prepare for IELTS?

  • Read the Information for Candidate booklet in the IELTS test application process.
  • Purchase IELTS Specimen Materials which include IELTS sample test papers, available at USC's test centre.

Can I book a seat over the telephone or online?

No. Applications for the IELTS test are only accepted by post or submitted in person. Visit how to apply for more information.

I sent my application by post—why haven't I received a confirmation letter?

IELTS applications can take 7–10 working days to process. Confirmation letters are sent to candidates through the post only, not by email. Ensure the address you use as a postal address is correct and secure.

Will I have the whole test on one day?

No. IELTS test centres can schedule the speaking component of the test seven days before or after the test date. For Saturday tests at this test centre the speaking component will be held on the Friday before the test. If candidates apply for a Saturday test they must be available on both days.

What can I take into the examination room?

Only identification, pens, pencils, erasers, pencil sharpeners and water in a clear plastic bottle can be taken into the examination room.

Candidates must bring the same identification documents they used to register for the test. Certified copies, photocopies or other forms of identification documents will not be accepted.

When will I receive my results?

Results will be made available to candidates 13 days after the test, unless USC is directed otherwise by IELTS Australia. Results will be sent to candidates through the post only, unless prior arrangements have been made with IELTS staff to collect them in person. Results can not be released to candidates over the telephone or by email.

If requested on your application form, up to five additional copies of your Test Report Form (TRF) can be sent to organisations on your behalf. This includes government agencies, immigration authorities or universities. Your Test Report Form (TRF) can not be sent to migration agents.

What happens if I want to cancel my test?

A 75 percent refund will be made if candidates apply for a refund up to five weeks prior to the test date.

All cancellations and transfer requests within five weeks of the test date, will incur the full test fee— except applications made for medical reasons with medical evidence provided.
