English language requirements

English language requirements to apply for a:

You need a high level of academic English before starting your program as all lectures and tutorials are taught in English. 

If English is not your first language, you must meet the minimum English requirements for your chosen program. If you do not meet the minimum requirements, we recommend that you enrol in one of our English Language Programs to achieve the required level.

Please note: Different English language requirements apply for nursing programs and the Graduate Diploma in Education.

English language requirements for International Foundation Pathway (IFP)

The international student English language requirement for the International Foundation Pathway (IFP) program is IELTS 5.5 or equivalent.

English language requirements for Tertiary Preparation Pathway (TPP) program

The international student English language requirement for the Tertiary Preparation Pathway TPP) is IELTS 6.0 and 5.5 (minimum) in all subtests.

English language requirements for nursing programs

The international student English language requirement for the Bachelor of Nursing Science and Bachelor of Nursing Science (Graduate Entry) is IELTS 6.5. If seeking registration as a nurse in Australia upon completion of either program, you must demonstrate an IELTS score of 7.0.

English language requirements for the Graduate Diploma in Education 

The international student English language requirement for the Graduate Diploma in Education is IELTS 7.0.

English language requirements to apply for a student visa

An IELTS test may be required as part of your student visa application depending on your country of citizenship and the program you apply for.

This is separate from the English requirements for admission to the University. Please check the English requirements for a student visa with the Australian Embassy or Mission closest to you, or the Department of Immigration and Citizenship.
