Public transport upgrades
Bus interchange and Greenlink
The public transport network to the University and Sippy Downs will be upgraded in 2008 with the construction of a new A$4.6million bus interchange and greenlink on campus.
Due to commence construction around August/September 2008, this public transport project will provide a three-platform bus interchange with a dedicated bus/pedestrian link directly from the University campus into Chancellor Park. It is estimated the greenlink will reduce travel time to and from campus by an average of 10 minutes.
New bus route in Caloundra
A recent announcement is the addition of the new Route 603 (PDF 69KB) to the Sunbus timetable. This service provides public transport to West Caloundra for the first time.
Road networks upgrade – Sunshine Motorway interchange
The road network around the University campus at Sippy Downs is changing, with construction of a new Sunshine Motorway interchange at Sippy Downs (refer to images below). Officially open on Thursday 24 July 2008, the all-directional interchange connects the motorway with Dixon and Claymore Roads, providing additional access to the University of the Sunshine Coast and surrounding development.
This A$66 million project is part of the South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program.
Construction hours
Working hours will generally be between 7am and 5pm, six days a week. If night work is required, local residents will be notified through mail outs and advertisements in the local press. Minor traffic disruptions will continue in the vicinity of the construction site. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and look for details on construction message boards.
Safety around roadworks
The safety of motorists and road-workers is very important. When travelling through the work zone please proceed with care and keep the following tips in mind:
- be patient and take extra care
- look for roadwork signs
- don't be distracted by roadworks
- slow down in bad weather
- leave a little earlier as there may be delays
- don't follow too closely
