Overview
The University of the Sunshine Coast is committed to the provision of high quality catering services to its students, staff, internal clients and external clients. These services include the provision of on campus food outlets and the provision of on-site catering to events. The following policy sets out the principles which govern catering on the campus.
Policy
1. Definitions
In this policy:
Catering means the provision of food and / or beverages
Event means an occasion for which university facilities are required and for which approval has been given
External client means an individual, entity, or group, hiring University facilities or services having no contractual or academic arrangements with the University.
Hire means an arrangement for the use of university facilities and which is outside the scope of normal academic timetabling
Internal client means an individual or group directly associated with the University through contractual or academic arrangements, and includes the Student Guild
Sponsored events means any events approved pursuant to section 5 of the Policy on the Hire of University Facilities
Student Guild means the body corporate established under section 34 of the University of the Sunshine Coast Act, 1998
University premises means any buildings or grounds which are under the control and management of the University and which are used for, or in connection with, the purposes of the University.
2. Food outlets on campus
2.1 The University has exclusive rights to catering on University premises.
2.2 External clients may only provide catering on University premises with the express approval of the Vice-Chancellor or nominee.
2.3 Alternative arrangements for special functions held by internal clients may be approved by the Vice-Chancellor or nominee.
3. Catering to events
3.1 The University has exclusive rights to catering for all events held on University premises.
3.2 The Vice-Chancellor or nominee may waive the requirement for a hirer of University facilities to use the University as caterer.
3.3 All requests for catering must be made on the Application for Catering Services form.
3.4 The University reserves the right to refuse catering to any event.
4. Applicable health, safety and food legislation
4.1 The provision of catering on University premises, whether by the University or otherwise, is required to meet all applicable health, safety and food legislation.
4.2 In the case of catering undertaken by the University, the Vice-Chancellor is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety and food legislation.
4.3 In the case of catering undertaken by any other body on University premises, that body is responsible for ensuring compliance with all relevant health, safety and food legislation.
5. Schedule of prices
5.1 A schedule of prices for food and beverages shall be approved by the Vice-Chancellor and reviewed on at least an annual basis.
5.2 The schedule of prices may be discounted where catering is provided to a sponsored event, or to an event or hire that is otherwise subsidised, with the approval of the Vice-Chancellor or nominee.
