Overview

The University's Strategic Plan outlines goals, objectives, strategies and values underpinning the operation of the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Our key staff goal is:

To continue to attract and retain high quality staff who are committed to innovative, responsive and flexible approaches to all facets of the University's operations.

Three initiatives have been designed to:

  • provide advancement opportunities for APT employees
  • create improved organisational flexibility
  • support the University's culture and climate and the achievement of the University's strategic objectives
  • enhance the goals of Performance Planning and Review (PPR)
  • respond to changes in job/work design and
  • acknowledge notable achievement over time of an APT staff member in their job

Guidelines

The initiatives are:
1. Accelerated Incremental Progression

A mechanism for all staff up to and including Level 9, to recognise exceptional overall performance of job duties demonstrated by a staff member's capacity to contribute to University objectives at a higher standard than their current step within a level. It is normally triggered by the annual PPR process and therefore only occurs once a year.

2. Broadbanding

The expansion of a salary range attached to any position, which encompasses 2 adjoining classification levels. It is normally limited to vacant positions at the point of advertisement. It is available for positions classified up to and including Level 10. The following classification levels may be broadbanded:

  • Level 3 to Level 4 · Level 7 to Level 8
  • Level 5 to Level 6 · Level 9 to Level 10
3. Promotion

Where the skills and knowledge gained and applied in a position exceed the standard expectations of that position (as reflected in the Position Description) and there is an on-going need for a staff member to undertake duties at the next classification level.
