EO Online

Welcome to EO Online

The University of the Sunshine Coast is committed to the principles of equity in employment (staff) and education (students), and freedom from discrimination on the basis of attributes unrelated to the purpose of the University and from harassment of all forms.

EO Online supports this commitment through a comprehensive self-paced, online training program about equal opportunity and legal responsibilities. It is an interactive, web-based equity training program available for all staff of the University.

EO Online has been developed for staff in the higher education sector by a consortium of Australian universities. It covers theoretical knowledge and a practical understanding of how to apply equal opportunity principles in work and study environments and uses real-life case studies, examples and interactive learning techniques for self assessment.

It is presented in two self-paced modules which should take approximately 40-55 minutes to complete. Each module includes information, real-life examples, scenarios, quizzes and a learning summary for each section.

  • Module 1: What you need to know
  • Module 2: Managers and Supervisors

There is no time limit for completion of quizzes or to the number of times a quiz can be attempted. No results are recorded, except for a completion certification.

Who needs to complete EO Online?

All staff should work through module 1. Staff with managerial or supervisory responsibilities should work through modules 1 and 2. A module can be completed in more than one session. Use the browser Bookmarks or Favourites to mark the page to be returned to.

When modules are completed, a Certificate of Attainment will be issued to the relevant staff member and Human Resources will record the completion. The record of completion is an automated process that occurs when a module is completed.

Staff need to select the University of the Sunshine Coast from a list of institutions provided and enter the following details:

  • staff email address
  • full name
  • organisational unit
  • staff (PeopleSoft) ID number

The record is activated by hitting the submit button. It is important that this action is taken otherwise a record of completion will not be made.

Why do staff need to complete this training?

Australian anti-discrimination laws make it 'unlawful' to discriminate against or harass someone at work and in education. The University has a legal obligation under State and Federal discrimination and human rights legislation to provide a work and educational environment that is free from harassment, discrimination, bullying and vilification.

EO Online provides staff with the knowledge to perform their legal responsibilities as a member of the University community.

All staff at the University of the Sunshine Coast should familiarise themselves with the information in EO Online, to be aware of their rights and responsibilities under anti-discrimination legislation and the University's Code of Conduct policy.

Staff are encouraged to re-visit EO Online periodically to refresh their knowledge, and to use the program as a resource when necessary.

Expected learning outcomes for staff include:

  • learning how to deal with and prevent discrimination and harassment in the workplace
  • understanding legal rights and responsibilities to achieve a discrimination and harassment free work and study environment
  • increasing awareness of equity policies, issues and strategies in the University
  • providing a reference for dealing with issues and grievances
