Director's message
Welcome to the Information Services Branch.
The Branch provides a wide range of services to University students, staff and external clients, ranging from Library resources, reference services, study facilities, records management and printing services through to switchboard, mail delivery and general enquiry services. The Branch also manages copyright, freedom of information and privacy issues for the University.
Our purpose is to support the learning, teaching, research, regional engagement and administrative activities of the University by providing excellent client services and effective, efficient access to information.
Major Branch achievements during 2007 included:

- establishing Faculty Librarian positions for each of the University’s three faculties
- expanding Library space into Level 2 of J Block to provide more study spaces and collection shelving
- establishing a Herbarium collection within the Library, in conjunction with the Faculty of Science, Health and Education and the University Foundation
- offering new Library services such as off-campus loans to higher degree research students and community borrowing
- completing the biannual Library Client Satisfaction Survey, resulting in a 6 percent improvement since the 2005 survey in the Library’s overall satisfaction rating
- reviewing the University’s records management operations, resulting in recommendations for improvements to be implemented over an 18 month period
- establishing a USC-managed student printing service
- conducting a successful trial, with Information Technology Services, of a wireless facility within the Library
