School of Social Sciences
Welcome to the School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
The School is known for its enthusiastic students, committed teaching staff and leading researchers. We are proud of our involvement through research, teaching and service in major issues that engage our local, national and global communities. Our well-designed undergraduate programs enable students to pursue a wide range of academic disciplines and career outcomes. Those disciplines include: Australian studies, counselling, geography, history, human services, Indigenous studies, regional and urban planning, psychology, politics, social work and sociology.
Our programs include opportunities to undertake work placements, independent research projects and overseas study. We also offer Honours and postgraduate research degrees. We attract students from around the world as well as from our local region and other parts of Australia.
Our highly-qualified academic and professional staff pursue wide-ranging research interests. Our researchers are leading national and international projects, supported by funding from major competitive grants. Current projects being undertaken by staff within the School include a TELSTRA Foundation funded project on the prevention of child sexual abuse; an Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research funded project improving outcomes for farmers in Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu; and an Australian Research Council funded project that explores the history and politics of the Australian Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet.
I hope you enjoy your time within the School of Social Sciences and I wish you all the best with your studies.
