Profile
Sheila is an ecologist with over 25 years professional and academic experience. She has worked with government, private enterprise, communities and tertiary institutions in areas such as public education, interpretation, conservation management, marine ecology and communication.
Sheila’s research interests include conservation, human impact on the natural environment, ecotourism, effective communication, the effect of human-wildlife interactions on attitude and behaviour, green consumerism, protected area management, conservation volunteering and learning in leisure settings.
Her teaching area currently focuses on the human-environment interface and interpretative communication. Sheila specialises in the development of effective communication skills and currently consults in this capacity to Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village on Fraser Island and the Sunshine Coast Regional Council.
Sheila completed her PhD with the University of the Sunshine Coast in the area of communication of conservation values in whale-watching tourism.
