Profile
Dr Ian White lectured in Graphic Design at both Townsville College of TAFE (1982-92) and James Cook University (1992-2001) and was awarded the 1987 Ruth Atkinson Memorial Prize for Excellence in Scholarship at JCU and the DEVET Employee Award for Outstanding Contribution to Employment, Education and Training in 1990.
He successfully operated a small freelance design business (Communication Art) until 2000 and assumed responsibility for the Graphic Design program within the Bachelor of Visual Arts program at JCU in 1994. Following several revisions of the degree program to maintain technological and industry relevance, Ian proposed and became responsible for the creation and introduction of a dedicated, digitally oriented Graphic Design / Illustration / Visual Communication degree program, which was launched as the Bachelor of Communication Design (BCD) in 1999.
Included in the BCD program was a "Livework" studio RossDesign, which took over responsibility for JCU's in-house Graphic Design studio, allowing final year and honours students to obtain experience with "live" jobs and clients in a fee-for-service work environment, whilst extending their portfolios with applied design projects. Ian commenced at USC in July 2001.
