Profile
Uwe Terton started his professional career as an assistant of photography working with Glenn Watson and Ken Nahoun in the United States. He studied Visual Communication at the University in Bielefeld, and worked as a photo journalist for leading German newspapers including TAZ, die Zeit, Schwaebisches Tagblatt and der GEA. Over a year, Uwe documented the change and shifts in East Germany before and after the reunification. He also had seven photo art exhibitions across Germany.
Uwe completed his masters in Media Sciences at the University of Tuebingen, and then joined one of Germany's leading multimedia companies 21Torr where he worked as a web developer and screen designer for three years. He then became the co-founder and Senior Online Editor of the Metropolis AG, the leading online community in Germany at the time with over 1.3 million registered members. He founded the first online art banner competition, held in conjunction with ZKM (Centre for Art and Media Karlsruhe, Germany) and developed an online communication forum for democracy (Tower of Power) with members of the German parliament and Hermann Josef Hack (German media artist and former scholar of Joseph Beuys).
Uwe initialised and designed the Metropolis art area, which became Germany’s first online art community with over 400 artists. In 2000, with cooperation with the ZKM multimedia team in Karlsruhe, he organised a conference about online communities and their impact on society. Uwe was asked to develop and teach courses in Screen Design, Web Programming and Project Management as well as Net Art at the University in Furtwangen and Tuebingen, Germany.
Uwe moved to Australia with his family in 2001 and has since taught Design Perspectives, Website Design, 3D-Object Modeling, 3D-Animation, Multimedia Project Management and Introduction into Multimedia, Interactive Animation and New Media History at several Australian universities including CQU, QUT and USC.
His main interest is in 3D-Design including object modeling animation, design of interactive applications (games, educational software, simulations). Uwe is a Doctor of Creative Arts candidate and is conducting his research in the emerging area of Design (New-Media). His project 'Jumping the Fence' is a computer-based educational adventure that challenges children to interact with the natural environment through exploration and experimentation.
Uwe is a dedicated wildlife carer and together with his wife looks after orphaned and injured native animals. In his hometown Eumundi, Uwe works as a co-editor for the community newspaper 'Eumundi Green' and is involved in several projects such as the Australian Body Art Carnivale. Uwe is a member of the KIWANIS Brisbane and the Singapore Australia Business Association. In his spare time, he writes novels.
