Profile

Dr Kurt Brereton is an academic, visual and new media artist. With over twenty-five years international and local experience he has worked across a number of arts, design and humanities disciplines in five Australian universities, and has spent periods as an artist in residence in England and Taiwan.

Dr Brereton's academic focus is on postgraduate course development and supervision. Over the last few years he has written and coordinated a number of programs including: Doctor of Creative Arts (DCA), Master of Creative Arts (MCA) and Graduate Certificates in Creative Arts courses for University of Technology, Sydney, and University of the Sunshine Coast.

Over the last decade Dr Brereton has built up a solid reputation as an expert educator and supervisor in the fields of new media, design, humanities and the visual arts. With a wide range of experience teaching across theory and practice in the creative arts, humanities and social sciences fields, Dr Brereton has written, coordinated and taught an extensive range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses for University of Technology, Sydney, University of Wollongong, and University of the Sunshine Coast.

Postgraduate supervision and research has been a strong focus over the last decade and supervising Australian and international students is performed both online and face-to-face. Dr Brereton regularly conducts postgraduate workshops to help students with their research, thesis writing and creative project development, exhibition and publication.
