Profile
Sheila Peake has research interests in areas that range from conservation and human impact on the natural environment, to ecotourism and communication. Her teaching topics cover the human-environment interface and interpretation.
Sheila is an ecologist with over 25 years professional and academic experience. She has worked with government, private enterprise, communities and tertiary institutions in areas that range from public education, interpretation and marine ecology to communication.
Sheila is currently completing her PhD with the University of the Sunshine Coast in the area of communication of conservation values in whale-watching tourism. The project encompasses all facets of the industry, from government legislation through to the commercial tour operators and tourists.
Sheila’s interests lie in the development of effective communication skills in tour guides and is currently a consultant in this capacity to the Kingfisher Bay Resort and Village on Fraser Island. Her other interests span the effect of human-wildlife interactions on attitude and behaviour, and communicating environmental values.
