Profile

Peter Baxter has 15 years experience in teaching a wide range of accounting courses at the University of the Sunshine Coast, Central Queensland University and the University of Southern Queensland. Peter has also worked in the audit division of Coopers and Lybrand (now Price Waterhouse Coopers). He is a member of the Accounting and Finance Association of Australia and New Zealand (AFAANZ).

Peter graduated with his Doctor of Philosophy degree in 2007. His dissertation examined the relationship between audit committees and financial reporting quality for a sample of Australian publicly listed companies. To assist in the completion of his dissertation, Peter was awarded an AFAANZ/CPA Australia/ICAA PhD Scholarship in 2006.

The major aims of this project are to identify: the current perceptions of accounting by first year university students; the factors associated with these perceptions; and the factors affecting the choice of an accounting major.
2008-2009 A$4,900 Dr Peter Baxter and Associate Professor John Sands "The impact of the CLERP 9 Act on Australian auditors" University of the Sunshine Coast - Internal Seed Grant. The major aim of this project is to determine if the independence and quality of Australian auditors’ work has improved following the enactment of the CLERP 9 Act in 2004.
