Profile
Dr Cheryl Rivers is program leader of the International Business major in the Faculty of Business. She is a late-comer to academia after a career in the Australian mining industry as a geologist and then as a financial analyst in investment banking in London and Sydney. In addition to her geology qualifications, she has an MBA from Durham University and a PhD from QUT. She is a member of the Academy of International Business and the International Association of Conflict Management.
Cheryl’s research is in cross-cultural negotiation, specifically on the use of negotiation ethics across cultures. Cheryl won an award for her work "Lying, cheating foreigners!! Negotiation ethics across cultures" from the International Association of Conflict Management in 2005 and her advice on how to negotiate effectively across cultures has been cited in the Australian and New Zealand press.
Cheryl teaches undergraduates in cross-cultural management at USC which she came to after two years in the School of International Business, at Queensland University of Technology. She also teaches Principles of International Business.
Cheryl does executive training in negotiation and in cross-cultural negotiation for Boeing Australia and in February 2008 taught into the ‘For women, by women’ Leadership and Development Program on behalf of the Sunshine Coast Business Women’s Network.
