Profile

Ms Tracey John’s clinical background is grounded in general nursing, particularly surgical and oncology nursing. An Endorsed Midwife, Ms John has worked in hospital settings within Queensland as well as rural and remote placements in the Northern Territory.

Ms John has recently returned to the Sunshine Coast after eight years of working for humanitarian agencies managing international public health programs in the Solomon Islands, Kosovo, Afghanistan, Ethiopia and the Thai-Burma border. These programs focused on improving the quality and access of health services, through the education of nurses and midwives, and by applying health promotion frameworks to enhance community development in resource poor settings. Ms John believes health is a human right and strives to engender health, particularly for the most vulnerable, being women and children.

Ms John is registered with the Queensland Nursing Council (QNC) and is a member of the Global Health Council and Australian Health Promotion Association. Currently pursuing a PhD at USC, Ms John’s research interest is in peri-natal harmful traditional practices.
