About learning and teaching
Learning and teaching mission
The University’s learning and teaching mission is to enable successful student learning through effective teaching, excellent curriculum design, and the generation of a positive academic environment.
More students choose USC
The University prides itself on quality learning and teaching. Each year more students choose to study at USC, attracted by a range of benefits that sets us apart from other universities:
Students enjoy their experience: graduates consistently give the University top marks for educational experience, with a 92 percent overall satisfaction rating in the 2006 CEQ. † USC is the highest ranked university in Australia in relation to graduates' satisfaction with teaching. **
Students learn from the best and brightest: USC has the highest proportion of academic staff with Doctoral or Masters qualifications of any university in Queensland - and the fifth highest in Australia. #
Class sizes are small: lecturers are available for personal consultation, creating a quality, interactive learning environment.
Degrees include practical industry experiences: internships, industry-based projects and work experience developed by the University in conjunction with industry allow graduates to embark on careers with experience and confidence.
Students have easy access to learning resources: USC received five-star ratings for both electronic support and academic services in the 2007 Good Universities Guide, and the University Library houses more than 100,000 print volumes and 23,500 digital resources.
Flexible degree structures enable study across three faculties: students have the flexibility to tailor a degree to meet their needs. Common first year courses give students a broad knowledge base, while flexible program structures allow students to specialise, choosing courses from a wide range of disciplines and even across faculties.
Exciting opportunities to experience university overseas: the University has partnered with more than 70 institutions in more than 20 countries to offer exchange and in-country study through the GO (Global Opportunities) Program. Scholarships are available to assist students with travel and study costs.
The Sunshine Coast lifestyle: students combine quality education with the safe and affordable Sunshine Coast lifestyle.
