Donations
The University Library accepts gifts and donations in accordance with its collection development and fiscal policies and guidelines.
Gifts to the Library, both large and small, supplement the annual budget for the acquisition of library materials, and offers to donate books or money are always welcomed.
Tax incentives
The University Library is eligible to participate in the Cultural Gifts Program which encourages gifts of significant cultural items offering donors a tax deduction for the market value of their gifts, under Subdivision 30-A of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (the Act).
The University Library is a registered deductible gift recipient under Subdivision 30-B of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997 (the Act).
Donors of gifts of money of two dollars or more may be eligible to claim an income tax deduction.
Valuation expenses incurred by a donor are tax deductible if the valuation is made solely to determine the market value of a deductible gift so a gift deduction can be claimed.
Gifts of money
Donations of funds are always welcome, and may range from a simple cash gift to various forms of planned or deferred giving such as endowments, annuities, and bequests.
To explore various planned giving options, please contact the University’s Foundation Officer or contact the Director, Information Services.
Gifts of books or collection materials
Donations of books, journals, and other materials broaden our collections, enable us to meet the demand for multiple copies of heavily used titles, and also help us replace lost or damaged copies.
If you wish to make a donation of materials, please contact us to discuss your offer in detail.
A brief inventory or list of titles (and journal issues by date), while not essential, often aids the Library in considering donation offers.
Conditions of donation
Donations of material are accepted with the understanding that the University becomes the sole owner, and reserves the ultimate right to determine retention, location, level of cataloguing, access, and other considerations related to its use or disposition.
Bookplates and memorials
The Library may grant requests that names be added to bookplates inserted in donated books (or those purchased with donated funds).
These may bear the donor's name and/or the names of those in whose honour or memory the gift is made. A bookplate is a wonderful graduation gift.
