Facilities

The Library offers a range of options for different working and learning activities. We cater for your needs whether you wish to work alone, in small groups, or participate in class tutorials or workshops.

At entry Level 1 you come into the Information Commons. The Library computer lab is also on this level. Group Study Rooms for collaborative work are located on the Ground Floor and Level 2 of the Library building and in the Library annexe in the ICT building.

If you prefer to work in a noise free zone, areas in Level 2, J Building are designated for Quiet and Silent Study. We provide open plan group study, individual and relaxation spaces for reading or viewing on the Ground Floor and Level 2 of the Library building.

The Learning Connections Room offers adaptive technologies equipment to assist hearing and sight impaired students. Indigenous students may use the ITAS Room (Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme) to access computing equipment. A variety of audio-visual equipment is available for recording and viewing. Printing, scanning and copying equipment is availble.

Information Commons

The Information Commons is a busy social learning space that offers:

  • 71 networked computers with access to the Library catalogue, electronic databases, internet, email, digital resources and printing
  • 9 express workstations with 10 minute access for quick email and printing jobs
  • Librarians at the Information Desk to assist you find the resources you need to complete assignments
  • Academic Services staff at the Information Desk at scheduled Drop-In sessions
  • IT student support from staff at the Information Desk to help solve your network problems
  • 1 computer that gives access to the Library catalogue and electronic databases for community visitors and reciprocal members

Computer lab

The Library computer lab is the venue for Library based tutorials and workshops. This space offers 21 networked computers. It is available for general use as a quiet study area when not booked for classes.

Study space

Open plan group study spaces are located on Ground Floor and Level 2 of the Library building. Large tables provide space for collaborative work. Individual study booths are located on Ground Floor and Level 2 of the Library building. Booths are wired for network access or you can use your laptop through the wireless network.

Group study rooms are located on Ground Floor and Level 2 of the Library building and in the Library space Level 2, J Building. Smaller rooms accommodate 6 people whilst the largest can be used for up to 18 people. Services vary but may include:

  • wireless access
  • networked PC access
  • data projector for presentation rehearsal
  • TV monitor with VHS/DVD players

Rooms may be used for a maximum of 2 hours. You can book the space up to 2 weeks in advance by noting your name on the sheet attached to the door.

Quiet study areas are provided for those times you need to work in silence. The main quiet study area is in the Library space, Level 2, J Building. The Library Lab is a designated quiet space for general use when it is not being used for scheduled classes. You may be asked to leave the area if your behaviour disturbs others.

Relaxation space

You can unwind on the couches and informal seating on the western side of Level 2. The Ground Floor couches are grouped around a TV monitor.

Learning Connections

The Learning Connections room offers a range of adaptive technologies to assist sight and hearing impaired students. Eligible students may book this facility through the Disabilities Officer.

Indigenous Tutorial Assistance Scheme (ITAS)

The ITAS room accommodates up to 8 people and offers a networked PC. Eligible students may book this facility through Indigenous Support Services.

Audio-visual equipment

Audio-visual equipment is available for loan through the Loans desk. You may borrow voice recording equipment in addition to digital still and video cameras for recording purposes. Peripherals such as tripods are also available. VHS and DVD players are located in Group Study Rooms.

Printing, scanning and copying

Printing, scanning and copying equipment is located in the Information Commons, Level 2 of the Library building and in the Library, Level 2, J Building. Colour printing and scanning equipment is on Level 2. You can purchase binding combs and covers to do small binding jobs using equipment located in the Information Commons. You are able to add credit to your student card using a self service coin machine or with staff assistance at the Print and Copying Services desk on Level 1. EFTPOS and credit facilities are available.
