Welcome

Welcome all students and staff to the start of the new academic year. Our first newsletter for 2007 outlines many of the exciting initiatives and projects being undertaken by the Information Services Branch this year.

  • The RUBRIC Project will produce an institutional repository for the University, preserving and showcasing the research and creative output of University staff.
  • The Library has established Faculty Librarian positions so that each Faculty has a designated contact with the Library, and that Librarian can provide specialised support for Faculty learning and teaching and research initiatives.
  • A new position of Information and Research Services Coordinator will provide strategic direction for the Library’s reference, research support, academic liaison and information literacy activities.
  • wireless facility will be trialled in two areas of the Library in first semester.
  • The Library space will be extended on Level 2 of J Block to accommodate growing collections and to provide more student seating.
  • Student printing services, managed for the first time by USC, went live in December and the service is providing students with reduced rates for printing, photocopying and binding.
  • The Print on Demand project will continue to be implemented during 2007, ultimately providing staff and students with a cost-effective, flexible digital printing and printing-related service, including copying, scanning, binding and other finishing options.
  • Our records management services will be reviewed to ensure that our policies and practices are meeting the University’s corporate needs.

Some structural changes were made within the Branch at the end of 2006 to enable the Branch to provide more effective services to the University. Our Operational Plan for 2007 focuses on improved communication with all faculties and sections, and improved systems and processes to sustain the Branch’s work as the University grows.

We look forward to working with our University colleagues, students and community members during 2007.
