There are two reasons to look for articles:
- to locate a particular article
- to locate any articles about a particular topic
Articles, including articles in journals, magazines, newspapers and periodicals, cannot be found on the library catalogue.
The library subscribes to a number of databases containing bibliographic information about serial articles, as well as the full text of selected articles.
There are two ways to locate articles:
- use the Journal and Newspaper Titles list to locate references to particular articles
- if you are looking for articles on a topic, use the databases.
Off campus access to databases is restricted to students and staff of the University of the Sunshine Coast. You will need to authenticate using your University of the Sunshine Coast network login and password.
Databases available include:
- ABI/Inform and Emerald MCB (for business related subjects)
- Science Journals and Wiley InterScience (for science related subjects)
- Social Science Journals and Project Muse (for arts and social science related subjects)
- Informit (for Australian information on all subjects)
- ANZ Newsstand (for current affairs information including newspaper and journal articles)
The databases page lists the databases by subject. Select your faculty area from the menu to see databases that are appropriate for subjects in that field.
There are two main types of databases available:
- Indexes tell you what has been published on a topic and give a description of the article - the article is not available
- Full-text databases contain the articles as well as the description - most articles are available
To access the databases from off campus you will need to authenticate by entering your University of the Sunshine Coast network username and password. Some databases require different passwords specifically for that database. Contact the Information Desk if the database that you wish to access requires a database specific password.
Remember that each database has different search tools and features. Check the Help section to make sure you are using it the right way. To learn more about using the databases to find journal articles, try the following tutorials:
