Introduction to the Library tutorials

Introduction to the Library sessions are usually offered during Orientation Week and the first three weeks of semester. These sessions provide an introduction to Library services and resources.

All tutorials are held in the Library Computer Lab, Level 1.

Tutorials after Orientation Week have hands-on experience and may include:

  • an introduction to the resources of an academic Library and searching the Library catalogue
  • principles of developing a research strategy, and literature searching with specific course reference tailored to an assignment, essay, or project
  • searching specific databases and other online information services
  • navigating the internet and conducting research on the web

Academic staff may arrange for library tutorials to support course requirements. Students are welcome to negotiate small group tutorials with their Faculty Librarian.

Staff at the Information Desk are available for research assistance if appropriate tutorials are not available.

Get to Know Your Library

Learn how to find the books, dvds, videos and journals listed on your course outlines and reading lists. This session includes practical experience in navigating the library catalogue and a tour of the building.

Get to Know Your Library Better

How to find information on a topic. In this session we look for good quality information using books, journal articles and the internet.

Find Journal Articles Using Library Databases

Knowing how to use library databases to find the right journal articles saves you time and frustration and can improve the quality of your work. All students are welcome at this session.

Endnote tutorials

Endnote is an enhanced references database and bibliography maker that manages bibliographic references and creates bibliographies automatically in Word. Endnote is available to all staff, postgraduate and honours students. 

The Endnote tutorial will cover:

  • how to create a reference in Endnote
  • how to search in an Endnote library
  • creating your own Endnote library
  • downloading from electronic databases

Endnote tutorials will be are held at the following times in the Library Computing Lab:
