Information Commons

The Information Commons is the entry to the Library, a dynamic learning space with research and information technology assistance at hand. Access to the USC portal, library databases, word processing and email, binders and scanner - everything required to complete an assignment is available in the one location. The goal is to provide a learning environment for USC students to achieve academic success.

Facilities and services

  • 71 computers with access to the Library catalogue, electronic databases, email, digital resources and printing
  • 21-seat computer laboratory for information literacy tutorials and workshops. Open for quiet computer use when not booked for classes
  • 8 express workstations for quick email and network printing
  • Computer available to all members of the community, with access to the Library catalogue and most databases
  • Information Desk for library reference and research assistance; academic skills and IT technical help
  • Student printing and copying facilities
  • Provision for laptops via cable

Workstation rules


The Computer Laboratory Rules outlined in the IT Student Guide apply also to the Information Commons.

Students may not reserve or lock the workstation or take any other action that may deny or impair access to the workstation and facilities. Preference will be given to those using workstations for academic purposes.

Facilities in the Information Commons are not to be used to access, store or transfer illegal and illicit material.
