Child Protective Practices Conference aims to showcase 'good outcomes for kids'

Showcasing creative and innovative practice that works

The Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences of the University of the Sunshine Coast, in partnership with the Caloundra Child Safety Service Centre (Department of Child Safety), invites you to participate in the 2008 Child Protective Practices Conference.

The conference objectives are to:

  • Make a difference to child protection practice, knowledge and skills
  • Promote innovative and responsive practice that achieves good outcomes for kids on the Sunshine Coast
  • Enhance collaboration amongst service providers, academics and students to encourage partnership between research and practice.

Keynote speakers:

  • Sandy Wilson, Manager Pine Rivers Child Safety Service Centre
  • Toni Cash, Programs Manager for Alternative Care, Save the Children

Innovative practice and research presentations:

  • Brett Nutley, Indigenous Advisor to the Premier
  • Dr Jan Foster, University of the Sunshine Coast
  • Alex Sharp, Project Coordinator – “No Strings Attached”
  • Annette Murray, Team Leader Child Protection & Support, Integrated Family and Youth Services
  • Pyjama Foundation, Mentor Training program, training volunteer angels to read to children in foster care
  • Wanna Be Deadly, sport and recreation project to engage young indigenous people between 12–25 years to improve health and well being.

Creative presentations:

  • Dramatic presentation by secondary school students
  • Indigenous dance troupe
  • Puppet show - child protection
  • Child protective resource presentation - University of Sunshine Coast students
  • Resource and agency display
