The Faculty of Science, Health and Education invites you to a guest seminar titled "Yeast contributions to health with a focus on Alzheimer's Disease", presented by Professor Ian Macreadie.
Professor Ian G Macreadie, from CSIRO Molecular and Health Technologies Melbourne, is a yeast molecular biologist who utilises yeast to study drug and disease mechanisms. He completed his PhD at Monash University, followed by post doctoral studies at University of Texas, before commencing at CSIRO in 1985.
His works have included the successful development of a veterinary vaccine, the study of the HIV auxiliary genes, analysis of malaria drugs and antifolate resistance, screening and study of novel antifungals, study of the statins and their side effects using yeast, and most recently the study of the effects of the Aβ, the harmful protein of Alzheimer's disease, and the testing compounds and factors that may prevent its harmful effects in Alzheimer's disease. All of these studies have involved yeast. He is an editor of FEMS Yeast Research, an Associate Editor of Journal of Alzheimer's Disease and serves as an Adjunct Professor at RMIT University.
