International Nurses Day at the University of the Sunshine Coast is a day designed for past, present and prospective nurses to learn about the history and future of nursing. Refer to the program of activities below for activities designed for school students, the nursing community, and the general community.

Guest lecture: The struggles of Lucy Osburn, Nightingale's envoy in Australia
Dr Judith Godden speaks about Lucy Osburn, head of the first nursing teams sent overseas by the Nightingale Fund Council. Through her work at Sydney Hospital in the 1800s, Lucy Osburn laid the foundations of modern nursing in Australia and pioneered the employment of high status professional women in public institutions. |

About Dr Judith Godden, PhD (Macq), BA(Hons), Dip.Ed. (UNE)
Dr Judith Godden, a senior lecturer in the School of Public Health, University of Sydney, is an historian with internationally recognised expertise in nursing history. Godden has undertaken oral history projects and published widely in the history of nursing, with her recent publications specialising in historical nursing biography. She has served on the executive of numerous professional organisations and is currently President of the Australian and New Zealand Society of the History of Medicine. She is a professionally accredited member of the Professional Historians Association. Her latest publication is a biography of nursing leader, Lucy Osburn.
