The University Gallery, located on the University of the Sunshine Coast campus at Sippy Downs, is set to reopen in February with an exhibition of contemporary drawings.

Exhibitions coincide with the University's study semesters and run from February to November each year.

The Gallery has an exciting program of exhibitions planned for 2005 beginning in February with a selection of works from the Jacaranda Acquisitive Drawing Award, Australia's richest drawing prize.

The rest of the 2005 Gallery program offers exhibits of paintings, sculptures, photography, video and Indigenous art throughout the year.

The Gallery also enables University students to exhibit their artwork with a mid-year and end of year exhibition.

The Gallery has enjoyed a busy year with more than 7000 visitors, an increase from 5500 in 2003.

This following the official opening in July of the new Gallery, part of Stage V development at the University.

Of this year's visitors, 1500 took advantage of the educational talks offered by the trained volunteers at the Gallery.

Before each new exhibition is opened, Gallery volunteers are briefed on the works and the artists, so they are able to answer questions and provide a more in-depth background for visitors.

Visitors can also stop by at the J Café, which is open weekdays and located directly opposite the Gallery, for a meal or coffee.Image of Cafe J

The Gallery will reopen in February and visitors are welcome Monday to Friday between 10am and 4pm and on Saturdays between 1 and 4pm.

Entry is free and group tours can be arranged.

You can contact the Gallery on 5459 4645.

The Gallery is located on the University campus on the corner of Stringybark Road and Sippy Downs Drive, Sippy Downs (just take the Buderim exit from the Bruce Highway).
