Top German university sports delegates visit USC
15 September, 2004
The President and International Relations Director of Germany's
top sports university will be on the Coast for the next four days
to strengthen existing links with the University of the Sunshine
Coast (USC).
The German Sports University (GSU) is one of the top sports
universities in Europe, and USC already has a successful student
exchange agreement with the institution, with a USC student
studying there this semester and another student placement planned
for next year.
GSU President, Walter Tokarski, and Director of International
Relations, Werner Sonnenschein, will visit the Sippy Downs campus
to meet with university staff and discuss further links and
opportunities for collaboration between the two universities.
The delegates are also interested in learning more about CHASE
(the Centre for Healthy Activities, Sport and Exercise at USC) and
developing student and staff exchange programs to further the
knowledge and understanding of both institutions in the science of
sport and exercise.
USC currently has several students from GSU studying here, and
those students will meet with Mr Tokarski and Mr Sonnenschein
during their visit.
Germany provides the second largest group of international
students to USC (38 students) after the United States and ahead of
Japan.
While on the Coast the German visitors will be making
presentations to USC staff and students, touring the campus
including a visit to the CHASE Sports Clinic, visiting the
Alexandra Headland Surf Lifesaving Club and touring Fraser
Island.
