Emerging artistic talent at University Gallery
24 August, 2004
Emerging artists from the Sunshine Coast will exhibit their
dynamic and imaginative work at the University of the Sunshine
Coast Gallery during September.
The Education Minister's Awards for Excellence in Art is an
exhibition of outstanding artwork by senior students from 20 high
schools from the Sunshine Coast and surrounding regions.
The exhibition opens at the University Gallery on Friday
September 3 at 6.00pm.
Gallery Director, Lisa Chandler, said the awards are held on an
annual basis and recognise creative excellence.
"Only a small number of works by students from each school are
selected for the exhibition, so being included is already a mark of
excellence," Ms Chandler said.
"The standard of work continues to be exceptionally high.
Visitors are impressed by the many diverse, original and
thought-provoking works," she said.
This extensive exhibition includes more than 55 works including
paintings, photography, sculptures and installation.
Last year's winners included students from Burnside State High
School and St John's College Nambour.
Each Queensland region selects between two and four artists,
whose work will be displayed at the Queensland Art Gallery and then
form part of an exhibition to tour the state.
The selected artists from the region will be announced on the
exhibition opening night.
Entries for the Minister's Awards for Art Excellence will be on
display at the University Gallery from September 4 to September
15.
University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery is open from 10.00am to
4.00pm weekdays and 1.00pm to 4.00pm on Saturday.
Admission to the exhibition is free and the public is
welcome.
