Roadshow visits 3000 school students in four days
23 April, 2004
Three thousand school students in four days - that's the higher
education Sunshine Coast Roadshow, which kicked off Tuesday, April
27.
The University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) organised the
Roadshow to help school students and their parents make better
informed decisions about higher education, career and study options
after high school.
Nineteen public and private higher education institutions from
across the state will be involved in the Roadshow which is an
initiative of the National Association of Prospective Student
Advisers (NAPSA).
From Maleny to Kawana, Beerwah to Coolum, the Roadshow presents
a series of 90-minute information sessions about higher education
options to 3000 students between Tuesday April 27 and Friday April
30.
The sessions target students in Years 10, 11 and 12.
USC External Relations Officer and Sunshine Coast Roadshow
organiser Kylie McKenzie organised the event to present local
school students with a variety of options for tertiary
education.
"These events are held to give students an opportunity to see
what is on offer when they finish high school," Ms McKenzie
said.
"As parents play a key role in helping their children make
decisions about higher education, some of the sessions will be held
in the evening to allow parents to attend.
"By having other higher education providers involved, students
can compare the benefits and convenience of studying at USC. They
can see the variety and quality of our courses alongside other
institutions," Ms McKenzie said.
"The Roadshow is a one-stop-shop of higher education
opportunities and USC is confident the option of staying on the
Coast to study for a degree will appeal to local students," she
said.
