High school artists shine at University Gallery
22 August, 2005
High school students from the Sunshine Coast region will exhibit
their dynamic and imaginative work at the University Gallery from
26 August to 15 September.
The Education Minister's Awards for Excellence in Art (Regional
2005) is an exhibition of outstanding artwork by senior students
from more than 20 high schools from the Sunshine Coast and
surrounding regions.
The exhibition opens at the University Gallery on Friday 26
August at 6.00pm.
Gallery Curator, Dawn Oelrich said the awards are held at the
USC Gallery on an annual basis and recognise creative
excellence.
"Only a small number of works by students from each school are
selected for the exhibition, so being included is already a mark of
excellence," Ms Oelrich said.
"The standard is always exceptionally high. Visitors are
impressed by the diverse choices of theme and media the students
use to present thought-provoking works," she said.
This extensive exhibition includes more than 55 works including
paintings, photography, sculpture and installation.
Last year's winners included students from Matthew Flinders
College and Mountain Creek High School.
Each Queensland region selects between two and five
art works that will be displayed at the Queensland Art Gallery
and then form part of an exhibition to tour the state.
The selected artists from the region will be announced on the
exhibition opening night.
Entries for the Minister's Awards for Art Excellence will be on
display at the University Gallery until 15 September.
The University of the Sunshine Coast Gallery is open from 10am
to 4pm weekdays and 1 to 4pm on Saturday. Admission to the
exhibition is free and the public is welcome.
The 2005 USC Gallery Exhibition Program is proudly supported by
