University of the Sunshine Coast students will be able to study in Noosa next year with the opening of the USC Noosa Centre in downtown Sunshine Beach.

From 2006, the University will offer first-year undergraduate Business studies from the USC Noosa Centre premises, allowing students to study a first-class USC degree in a location that is convenient for them.

USC Faculty of Business Dean, Professor Deborah Ralston, said the Noosa Centre would allow the University to more effectively cater to students' needs, while maintaining an emphasis on innovation, high-quality teaching and excellent graduate outcomes.

First year Business students, enrolled in a variety of Business degrees, will be able to study at the Centre. Both school-leavers and mature aged students interested in a career in business are invited to enrol to study at Noosa in Semester 1, 2006.

"The USC Noosa Centre is a self-sufficient facility that will allow students to study closer to home and develop links with local industry, while still benefiting from everything the University has to offer," Professor Ralston said.

"The Centre will be home to technologically advanced facilities, and the University's highly qualified staff will deliver courses, offering the best in teaching and learning."

Among the Centre's facilities are a computer laboratory, library, lecture and tutorial rooms and a student lounge. Resources and support will include administrative services, 24-hour computer access to e-reserve collections and databases, staff-student consultation and support services.

Professor Ralston encouraged prospective students and their families to take the opportunity to visit the USC Noosa Centre during an Open Day on December 4.

University of the Sunshine Coast Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Thomas said he was pleased students would now be able to study Business programs at either the USC Noosa Centre or the University's main Sippy Downs campus.

"Since its establishment in 1996, the University of the Sunshine Coast as gone on to develop faster than any other new university in the history of Australia," Professor Thomas said.

"It is exciting to see this growth reflected in the option to study Business at Noosa, a development which will help the University and the Faculty of Business honour its commitment to offering education that is innovative in its approach and keeps pace with technology and global developments."

The University of the Sunshine Coast has almost 4300 students enrolled in more than 70 degrees in 2005.

The Faculty of Business is the largest faculty at the University with more than 1800 students enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate programs.
