2005 Hall of Fame inductees named
2 December, 2005
The Sunshine Coast Sports Hall of Fame inducted two new members
on Thursday 1 December.
Maleny born Otto Nothling was recognised posthumously for his
contribution to cricket and rugby, with his son Martin accepting
the award on his father's behalf.
Otto Nothling was a dual international for Australia in cricket
and rugby - one of only two men to have achieved that remarkable
feat.
Mr Nothling made his first class cricket debut with NSW in
1992/23 and played one Test match for Australia against England in
1928.
He played cricket for Queensland in 1928/29 and later became the
Queensland Cricket Association President.
Kristy Munroe was recognised for her contribution to surf
lifesaving on the Sunshine Coast. At just 23 years of age, Ms
Munroe has dominated the sport of surf lifesaving.
By the time she'd come of age she'd won our national ironwoman
title and the world championship. In fact just 12 months after
she'd won the Australian under 19 ironwoman championship she
defeated a star studded field to win the coveted open title.
As the 2004 world ironwoman champion, Ms Munroe is also a
multiple world and national champion in board and ski disciplines.
She is a long time member of the Alexandra Headland Surf Club.
Jamie Moore received a Certificate of Merit for his achievements
in the sport of International Taekwon-Do, which have extended
beyond regional and state level, to the national and international
arena.
As Queensland Coach from 1995 to 2004, Mr Moore enjoyed
tremendous success, with his teams bringing home a total of 117
gold, 106 silver and 81 bronze medals.
Internationally, Mr Moore's success as a coach continued at the
World Championships in Italy where Australia won its first ever
gold medal in International Taekwon-Do, followed by further success
at the 13th World Championships in Greece, and the Junior World
Championships in Malaysia in 2004.
Previous inductees to the Sunshine Coast Sports Hall of Fame
include; Mal Meninga, Clint Robinson, Brendan Burkett, Grant Kenny,
Ian Baker Finch, Darren Obah, Kerri Thomas, Glynis Nunn-Cearns and
Lisa Curry-Kenny.
